The ritual of afternoon tea started with Anna, Duchess of Bedford.
Rather than battle the hunger pangs she started to take tea and snacks each afternoon in the privacy of her bedroom.
Eventually this private ceremony became a time to meet acquaintances and thus the tradition of Afternoon Tea was born.
