Curman Lounge | Hg2 Stockholm

It’s not hard to make healthy choices at the Curman Lounge.

Rather, the Curman Lounge itself – found within Stockholm’s luxurious Sturebadet spa – inspires the diner towards making healthier, cleaner choices.

While upstairs on the third floor, cappuccinos are sipped and magazines flicked through in the restaurant as diners enjoy the second-hand relaxation that the Curman Lounge exudes.

Although it adheres to the same opening hours as the spa, visitors don’t need a membership to while away the hours in the Curman Lounge.

You can even grab a lunch to take away, if you’d like to enjoy some of the Curman Lounge zen in a different spot.

I had dinner with my husband at Frantzén on Friday 28 February 2014 and on the evening of my dinner the menu was divided into Prologue, Appetizer, Bread, Signature, Catch of today, Bird in two servings, Pâtisserie.

Frantzén used to serve a Josper oven baked sourdough bread in two servings, one early on in the meal, accompanied by freshly churned butter made with Jersey cream and salt and the second later on with smoked brown butter.

For this reason, the bread has understandably been replaced by an elegant fermented rye soup (made with veal and chicken stock), with some sour cream at the bottom of the cup, some crunchy rye crumbs and a drop of very powerful smoked bacon fat.

This time there were 32 ingredients, which included Anya potato, white and orange carrot, beetroot, celeriac, Jersusalem artichoke, celery and salsify, served and enhanced by Swedish sea salt, freshly made herb butter sauce and a sprinkling of crisp seabream scales for extra crunch.

To start there was crisp rye bread, covered with a pigeon liver crème and shredded pigeon leg meat, topped with a fresh herb salad and crisp mini beetroot discs.

Milan 2016: Stockholm design studio Afteroom's Family benches for Danish brand Menu feature tables that branch from the frames on powder-coated steel rods.

The Family bench pairs an oblong padded leather seat with a small circular marble tabletop, that's held on a slender metal arm that extends out from the furniture at a right angle.

The pieces are available in either black or white, and come as taller bar-table versions, or shorter cafe-style story Afteroom presents three-legged chair and stackable table for studio has also designed matching three-legged chairs, originally created in 2012 and released by Menu in 2014.

In 2014, Afteroom partnered with Menu on a coat hook, lounge chair and bar stool in a similar style, described by the studio as "Bauhaus Modernism".

The brand has also worked with Rotterdam studio WM on a pair of chairs with contrasting wire lattice backs, and with Note Design and Norm Architects on a collection of patchwork marble tables.

Stockholm-based Note Design Studio has renovated a 1950s restaurant in Helsinki, combining soft pink tones with a teak-lined scheme that honours the building's modernist design.

Located on the 10th floor of the historic Hotel Palace in the city's Eteläranta harbour area, the restaurant's revamped interiors feature teak veneer walls, dark teal carpet and custom-made trolleys inspired by the hotel's original mid-century design.

After the hotel building underwent a total renovation, the restaurant was relocated to its 10th floor – and Note Design Studio was brought on board to create the interiors.

"When [the restaurant] approached us, they didn't ask for a modern and trendy interior," said Note Design Studio.

Note Design Studio was founded in 2008 and has worked on multiple interiors projects in its home country of Sweden as well as collaborating with several brands on furniture.

“The old Frantzén times 10” is how chef Björn Frantzén describes the new iteration of his eponymous two-Michelin-starred restaurant, officially open last week.

The new version of the renowned tasting-menu restaurant just a mile away from the original will have “the same energy,” but Frantzén is looking forward to all of the changes: “It’s everything from the doorbell on the door, to the elevator that's just for the restaurant with the music and the light changing as you go up to the rooftop terrace, to the Japanese toilets to the open-fire kitchen,” he says.
